Burlington-Ella Rae Whitesell Hurdle, 93, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 12, 2018. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of the late Rev. Allen Lafayette Hurdle. She was the daughter of the late William Pete and Beulah Rudd Whitesell.
Ella Rae graduated from Burlington High School and retired from AT&T after 35 years of service. She was a longtime member of Beverly Hills UCC and was an active member in the Women's Fellowship. She served on many committees in church during the years. Ella Rae loved to cook and share her wonderful dishes with family, friends, and neighbors. She was a resident of Blakey Hall for 7 years prior to entering Edgewood Skilled Nursing.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue Faucette and husband, John of Burlington; son, James A. Hurdle and wife, Gloria of Arlington, VA; grandchildren, Jason Faucette and wife, Kim of Wilmington, NC; Susan Hurdle of Falls Church, VA and William Hurdle and wife, Emma of Annandale, VA and a great grandchild, Ella Sage Hurdle; nieces, Vickie Little and Jayme Bland and many loving nieces and nephews in the Hurdle family.
In addition to her husband, and parents, Ella Rae was preceded in death by her brother, James F. (Jim) Whitesell and his wife, Willie Faye.
The family wishes to extend thanks to Hospice of Alamance-Caswell, Edgewood Skilled Care, Blakey Hall, and Home Instead for their care during the last 8 years.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 at 2:30 PM at Alamance Memorial Park by Dr. Dace Lewis and Rev. Jim Owen. The family will meet with friends following the service at the cemetery.
