GIBSONVILLE- Mrs. Ella Kate Barber Evans, age 80, of 400 May St., went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, January 28, 2012 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. A native of Guilford County, she was the daughter of the late James Harlan Barber and the late Minnie Jones Barber and was married to the late Stanley Vance Evans, who died in 1999. Kate retired from Lucent Technologies after 20 years of service and then worked for the Gibsonville Elementary School for over 12 years. She was a longtime member of Gibsonville Evangelical Methodist Church where she served on various boards, including the Board of Trustees, Board of Stewards and the Finance Committee, and also taught Sunday School and was a member of the choir. She was also a member of the Evangelical Methodist Women. She loved her Lord and her family, especially her many grandchildren. Mrs. Evans is survived by a daughter, Janice Evans McArdle and her husband, C.P.; a son, Vance Evans and his wife, Yolanda, all of Burlington; daughter-in-law, Brenda Dodd and her husband, Doug, of Julian; seven grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; three brothers, Bud Frances Barber of Elon, Curtis Pat Barber of Graham and Russell Clara Barber of Browns Summitt; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a son, Lance Evans; and a infant daughter. The funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at Gibsonville Evangelical Methodist Church by Rev. Paul Speagle and Rev. Harold Thompson. Interment will follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Monday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
