Elizabeth Price

Mrs. Elizabeth “Lib” Busick Price, 90, died peacefully Thursday, January 10, 2019 at Guilford House in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 19 at Apple’s Chapel Christian Church in Gibsonville, North Carolina. Family and friends will be received at the church an hour prior.

Though “Lib” Price was raised in the humble red clays of a rural Guilford County tobacco farm, she would grow to become the first in her family to attend college, receiving in 1950 a Bachelor of Arts from Elon College and eventually a Master of Arts in Education Administration from East Carolina University in 1972.

After over a decade of teaching at both Graham and Reidsville Senior High Schools, Mrs. Price made her home in Williamston, North Carolina, where her loving husband of fifty-four years and partner in all things Percy Ashford Price (d.2004) served as Executive Director of the Martin County Economic Development Commission. Instrumental in the founding of Martin Community College, where she ultimately served as Chair of the Business & Commerce Department, Mrs. Price taught for forty-one years, shaping the lives of generations of students throughout North Carolina.

Mrs. Price lived a rich life full of scholastic and civic achievement. Always socially engaged and fiercely devoted to progressive causes within her community, Mrs. Price enjoyed memberships in: Kappa Delta Pi Honor Society in Education; Delta Pi Epsilon National Honorary Professional Graduate Society in Business Education; Martin County Arts Council; Martin County Historical Society; First Methodist Church of Williamston; and the Women’s Club of Williamston, from whom she would receive the Outstanding Award of Excellence for Continuing Service and later “Woman of the Year” designation. She served as chairperson of both the Martin County Council on the Status of Women and the Martin County Democratic Party, and was recognized as Instructional Administrator Emeritus from the North Carolina Association of Community College Instructional Administrators. She was selected as an Outstanding Educator of America in recognition of contributions to the advancement of higher education.

Though her accomplishments were many, she will be most remembered for being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who instilled in her family a deep understanding of the virtues afforded by an unwavering, passionate embrace of life, matched only by uplifting the lives of others.

She is survived by her daughter Pamela Price Pegram; son Jefferson Scott Price and wife Dee Harrell Price; son-in-law Wallace Lee Pegram; and grandchildren Julian Lee Pegram, Claire Elizabeth Pegram, Gunnar Scott Price, Rachel Ann Price, and Cason Harrell Price. She was preceded in death by husband Percy Ashford Price; parents Cecil William Busick and Zula Huffines Busick; and brother JW Busick and wife Lois Bowman Busick. The family would like to express its sincerest gratitude for the love and attention shown to Mrs. Price by her many caregivers over the last several years.
