Elizabeth McIntyre

Burlington, NC Elizabeth Betty Ogden McIntyre, age 86, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 13, 2011 at VA Medical Center in Durham. She was the wife of 62 years to Billie Van Wink McIntyre who survives. Betty was a member of Glencoe Baptist Church and a veteran of the US Navy. She taught middle school athletics for several years after graduating from Fairmont College in Morgantown, West Virginia. She later joined the US Navy and served during WW II and the Korean Conflict as a 3rd Class Petty Officer. After leaving the Navy she married and stayed at home caring for her husband and their children. Betty was an avid swimmer and golfer who spent many hours reading in her spare time. She is survived by her husband, Billie V. Wink McIntyre of the home; daughter, Patricia Patty McIntyre of the home and a son, Donald Donnie McIntyre also of the home; sisters, Jackie Price of Core, W. Virginia and Crystal Ogden of Youngstown, Ohio; brother, Ray Ogden and his wife, Mary of Charleston, W. Virginia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Gillispie Ogden and Mae Matthew Ogden. The family would like to thank the nurses and staff of the VA Medical Center for their kind and compassionate care of Betty. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Sunday, April 17, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Glencoe Baptist Church by Rev. Darrell Massey and the US Navy will provide honors.
