Burlington-Elizabeth "Libby" Cheek Burns, age 96 went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday, August 28, 2015. She was born in Chatham County to the late Troy Moffatt and Alma Phillips Cheek. She was the wife of the late Floyd "Bob" Marvin Burns who passed away in 2008. Libby was a homemaker and member of Ireland Street Chapel where she and her late husband served faithfully for many years. She was a loving and devoted Christian wife and mother with a burden for her family and friends to know Jesus as their Savior. She is survived by her daughters, Patricia Healy and husband, Michael of Birmingham , Alabama and Rebecca Smith and husband, Richard of Greensboro; sons Timothy Burns and wife, Paula of Mebane and Stephen Burns of Takoma Park, Maryland; Pete Burns and wife, Joyce of Warm Springs, Georgia; John Burns of Burlington and Paul Burns and wife, Susan of Richmond, Virginia; 18 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and great great grandchildren; sisters, Frances Stains of Raleigh, Josephine Watson of Raleigh. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sons, Larry Burns and Michael "Mickey" Burns; sisters, Jean Dowd and Helen Hess and brothers, Troy, Rector and Earl Cheek. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11:00 am at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Alan Parks and the entombment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends on Monday, August 31, 2015 from 5-7 pm at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory. Memorials may be made to Mountain Top Youth Camp, 1460 Mackay Lane, Pinnacle, NC 27043.
