In loving memory of Elena Mersina Maxwell affectionately known as "Leni" to all. She was a shining star who blazed and blessed all, whose lives she touched. She loved her family and friends. After many years of fighting Lymphoma she passed away peacefully in her sleep at home with her husband and sister present. Elena was a native of New York and moved to Burlington in 1972. She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend. Though she had no children of her own she adored her nieces, nephews, great nieces, nephews and step-sons. She was employed at Maxwell Volkswagen for 20 years where she was an integral part of their management team. She was the daughter of the late Mary Fernandez and Robert Fernandez who survives and the wife of William Dickson "Dick" Maxwell. Survivors include her husband of the home, father of High Point, step-sons; William Britt Maxwell and his wife Angela, John Brandon Maxwell all of Burlington, sisters; Athina "Tina" Kaminis and her husband Marvin Schwaeber of Stoney Creek, Marina Kaminis of Greesnboro, Maria Lorenz of Swepsonville, Elisa Najera and her husband John of Burlington, Christina King and her husband Michael of Burlington, several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. The celebration of her life will be held 2:00 PM Friday at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service.
