Mr. Eldridge Theodore “Ted” Bales, age 83, of Gibsonville, passed away on Tuesday, April 4, 2023 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after several months of failing health.
Born in Asheville, NC, he was the son of the late Eldridge Gentry Bales and the late Mae Williams Bales and was married for over 62 years to Mrs. Mattie Rea Sapp Bales, who survives. Ted graduated with a bachelor’s degree from N.C. State University in 1961, later received his MBA from Elon University in 1990 and retired from Lucent Technology after being employed in engineering and management for 36 years. He was a longtime member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church where he was a member of the church choir and also was involved with the Alamance Chorale and on an interim basis with the Duke University Chapel Choir. Ted also enjoyed photography as a hobby.
Mr. Bales is survived by his wife of the home; his son, Scott Allen Bales and wife, Julia; brother-in-law, Charlie Sapp and wife, Mitzi; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved pet dog, “Patches”. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patsy Ruth Swan and husband, Ralph.
A memorial service will be held at 7:00 PM Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Carol P. Carkin. The family will receive friends following the service.
