Mr. Eldred Ray McDaniel, age 77, of Burlington, passed away on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Andrew Jackson McDaniel and the late Bertha Mae Ayers McDaniel. Ray was a graduate of Walter M. Wiliiams High School, Class of 1957, and also attended Elon College. He retired from Rental Towel and Uniform Services and was a former owner of the Car Shop Food and Dairy located on N. Church St. Ray was an avid fan of all sports, but loved his favorite teams, the North Carolina Tarheels and the Dallas Cowboys. He was a former pitcher with the Burlington legion baseball league and he enjoyed to fish and hunt.
Mr. McDaniel is survived by his three children, Sherri Poole and her husband, Kenneth, Babette "Babs" Combs and Rodney Craig McDaniel and his wife, Sheila, all of Burlington; five grandchildren, Justin (Julie) Poole, Kevin Poole, Allison Kelly, Coleman McDaniel and Meredith McDaniel; his sister, Cornelia Boswell of Yanceyville; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Francis Childress.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Jeffrey Sparks and Dr. Kenneth Fath and their amazing staff for their many years of exceptional care and service.
The family will host an informal gathering of family and friends from 4 - 6 PM Friday, January 20, 2017 at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and receive friends at other times at his daughter, Sherri's home, 1024 Tarlton Ave., Burlington.
