Elbert Shaw

Elbert Lee Shaw born December 3, 1925 in Caswell County, NC to the late Lacy and Sallie Aldridge Shaw passed away peacefully on August 26, 2019. He is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years; Ettalene Shaw, daughters; Trudy Hurst (Don) of Atlanta, GA, Renee Downing (Larry) of Durham, NC and Denise Cardella (Dominic) of Cary, NC, grandchildren; Allison Conway (Chris), Jason Hurst (Ginger), Greg Hurst (Alesha), Ashlee Lepore (Joe), great-grandchildren; Felicity Conway, Katelynn and Philip Hurst, Justin and Hunter Hurst, Rocco and Wren Lepore, two sisters; Sue Huddleston and Alice Overman. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by son, Gary Shaw; sisters, Irene Abernathy and Elizabeth Apple. Elbert served in the US Army during WW II. He was retired from AT&T. Outside of his work hours, he was a volunteer for groups such as Hospice and Teen Challenge, an avid choir member and church deacon.

He wrote that through this journey of life, if we keep the faith that God has endowed us with, at the end, He will say, “Well done, my faithful servant.” He always put others first as a son, husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He loved the Bible and teaching others about God's Word and using their hands and hearts. He was loved by all. He loved to sing and was himself, instrumental in many lives.

A service to celebrate his life will be held at New Life at Hocutt on Wednesday August 28, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. The family will receive friends from 12:30 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Dominic Cardella, Chris Conway, Larry Downing, Don Hurst, Jason Hurst, Greg Hurst and Joe Lepore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to a charity of your choice.
