Elbert Garner

Elbert Donald Garner, age 75, of 812 Rainey St. went home to be with Lord, Saturday, November 5, 2011 at his residence after a critical illness of two weeks. Mr. Garner was born April 24, 1936 in Alamance County to the late Jesse James Garner and the late Sarah Shields Garner and was married to the late Patsy Ann Sutton Garner, who died in 2010. He was the owner and operator of Honest Tree Service for 47 years and attended Wicker St. Baptist Church. He was the most dedicated man with anything he set out to accomplish. He was the family's provider, comforter and cornerstone. He loved his family and his business and always took pride showing it. There are too many great things about Elbert to put into words. He will be greatly missed! Survivors include a daughter, Lisa Garner Duckworth of Burlington; a son, Donald Wayne Garner of Lillington; four grandchildren, April Garner, Karen Garner, Stephanie Garner, and Mitchell Duckworth; four great grandchildren, Michael Corbi, Andrew Donald, Gabrielle Donald, and Melanie Duckworth; a sister, Nellie Petty of Mebane; and three brothers, Lawrence Garner of Mebane, Leon Garner of Burlington and Charlie Garner of Murfreesboro, TN. He was preceded in death by his wife; parents; a sister, Reva Walker; and three brothers, John Garner, Larry Garner and Bernard "Burnin" Garner. A Celebration of Life service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Tommy Love officiating. Interment will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home and other times at the residence. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all who visited him and sent cards and letters during his last days.
