Mr. Edward R. "Ed" Middleton, 88, longtime resident of Burlington, passed away peacefully after a period of declining health at the Hospice Home, on Thursday morning, June 25, 2015. A native of Mississippi, he was born on February 10, 1927. He was the son of Elgin and Bessie Thornton Middleton, both deceased. He is survived by his loving wife Mary, who was his constant companion and main caregiver during the last few years. Ed was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, actively serving in the Pacific theatre during the 2nd World War. Ed retired as a Logistical Engineer from AT&T, where he was also a Certified Professional Logistician. After retiring he enjoyed gardening and spending time with his family. He was especially fond of his grandchildren. He was a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Burlington. Other than his wife, survivors include a son, Glenn Middleton and wife Kim of Mebane, NC; son, Greg Middleton and wife Jill of Elon, NC; grandson, William Middleton and wife Shannon of Lynchburg, VA; granddaughter, Betsy Middleton of Elon, NC; his brother, James Middleton and wife Hazel of Cedartown, GA; and sister Joyce Frederick of Zion, IL. Funeral services will be conducted at 12 noon on Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel in Burlington by Pastor Larry Lamberth and Pastor Ed Moschler. Burial will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery in Burlington. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home in from 11:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the service. The family also wishes to express our sincere gratitude to the staff of Hospice both at home and at the Hospice Home for their wonderful support and care during Ed's declining health. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC.
