Edward Horne

Mr. Edward Wood "Ed" Horne, age 78, of 2740 Trail Two, died Tuesday, April 5, 2011 at Duke University Medical Center after three months of failing health. Born in Kinston County, NC, he was the son of the late Lewis and Minnie Edna Horne and was married for over 43 years to Mrs. Ethel Whitt Horne, who survives. He was retired from Alexander Fabrics and was a longtime member of Moose Lodge #649. Mr. Horne is survived by his wife of the home; a son, Eddie Carol Horne of Farmville, NC; three step daughters, Barbara B. White and "Whiz" White of Burlington, Marlyne B. Boatwright and life partner, Lynn Hockett of Raleigh and Betty B. Smith and Ronald Smith of Burlington; five step grandchildren, Brent Smith and his wife, Melinda, Jamie White, Bill White and wife, Kimberly, Kimberly Oakley and husband, Neal, and Noel Purswell and husband, Ryan; eight step great grandchildren, Bailey White, Rachael Coble, Jackson Coble, Bray White, Mallory White, Ryan Oakley, Caroline Oakley and Aydan Smith; a sister, Doris Green of Kinston, NC; and a special nephew, Gary Green and his daughter, Kaitlin. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:30 PM Thursday, April 7, 2011 at Graham Memorial Park by Rev. Ben Bishop. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 3:00 PM Thursday afternoon prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
