Edward Lee Davis, Jr., 72, of Mebane died on Friday, October 4, 2013 at the Alamance-Caswell Hospice Home. He was born in Centralia, Illinois and was the son of the late Edward Lee Davis, Sr. and the late Florence Evelyn Potter Davis Schwartz. He was married for 48 years to Elizabeth Sargent Davis, who survives. He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving during the Cuban Conflict and the Vietnam War. Mr. Davis was a mason, a member of the VFW, DAV, and the FRA. He is a member of Burlington Church of Christ and before coming to Burlington, he had served as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Elder at Kempsville Church of Christ, Virginia Beach, VA. He is survived by his wife of the home; daughter, Ren Mitchell and her husband John of Hillsborough; sons, Gary L. Davis and his fiance Connie of Waverly, VA, Edward L. Davis III and his wife Karla of Honolulu, HI and Alan Davis and his wife Crystal of Beckley, WV; 10 grandchildren, Philip, Courtney, Kelsey, Wesley, Grace, Chloe, Sophia, Lindsey, Matthias and Katharina; 6 great grandchildren; sisters, Phyllis Aydt, Helen Childers and Sharon Thomas and brothers, James "Jim" Davis and Gary Davis. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Toby Davis. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday at Burlington Church of Christ by Rev. Creighton Beatty. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Burlington Church of Christ Building Fund or charity of choice.
