Edna Grant

Burlington, NC Mrs. Edna Norton Grant, formerly of Lee Drive went home to be with the Lord on Monday, August 3, 2009 at the Hospice Home surrounded by her family. She was born in Marinette, Wisconsin to the late Roy and Edith Bauldry Norton. Edna was the wife of 58 years to M. Gary Grant who passed away in 2003. Mrs. Grant served her country during WW II in the WAC division of the US Army Aircorps, stationed at Fort Myers, Florida. In her earlier years after the war she was a cosmetologist and also worked a brief time in retail, but was a homemaker most of her life. In her later years she was a child caregiver to her cherished children. Edna was a longtime member of Grove Park Baptist Church where she served a number of years as a GA leader and nursery worker. She loved to bake and was well known for her cakes. Also, known to many were her crocheted baby blankets and afghans. Edna Grant was a devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She has three daughters, Linda Maness and her husband Wayne of Burlington, Beverly Lawson and her husband, Richard of Vass, NC and Sherry McAdams and her husband, Jeff of Elon; her grandchildren, Wendy Anthony Lane, Tina Brian Vaughn, Jason Maness, Tammy David Dawkins, Michael Terrell, Monica Ryan Johnson and Grant Saunders and his fiance, Ashley Maiolo; ten great grandchildren; her brother, Robert Norton of Augusta, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her Husband, parents, Sister, Dorothy Streng; brothers, Ralph and Spencer Norton. A memorial service to celebrate her life will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Gene Hunsinger and Rev. Bill Vickrey. Military honors will be provided by the US Army at the conclusion of the service. The family will receive friends from 9:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. prior to the service on Thursday at the funeral home.
