Edith Grey McFayden Shanklin, 94, of Burlington went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her family, on Friday, August 14, 2009 at the Hospice Home after several weeks of failing health. She was married to the late James Edward Shanklin and was born November 12, 1914 in Alamance County to the late James L. and Jane Blanche Cates McFayden. She retired from Carolina Paper Box Company and was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Burlington. Survivors include her daughters, Jane Ernest Willoughby of Greenville, NC, Mary Ande Shoe of Burlington; a granddaughter, Lindsey Brad Jeffries of Browns Summit; a step granddaughter Paige Shoe of Graham and a great grandson, Evan Grey Jeffries. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, a sister, Sarah M. Dunlap and brothers, James L. McFayden, Bill D. McFayden and John D. McFayden. The funeral will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday, August 16, 2009 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Dr. Terry Peele and Dr. Dale Steele. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:45 Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Mary Shoe, 104 Shannon Dr., Burlington. Words cannot express our love and appreciation for all of Mrs. Shanklin's caregivers at the Hospice Home.
