Edith Byerly

Elon, NC Edith Gilbert Byerly, age 83, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at her home surrounded by her family. Edith was the wife of the late Walter Levi Byerly, Sr. and the daughter of Columbus C. and Virgie Edna McCoy Gilbert. Edith was a retired textile worker and homemaker. She was a member of Ossipee Baptist Church and was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and great great grandmother. Survivors include her daughters, Peggy Jean Mansfield and Betty Sue Byerly both of Elon, Kathy Sue Byerly of Butner and Debbie Sue Burnette of Sandstone, Virginia; sons, Walter Levi Byerly, Jr. Chantal and Jerry Lee Byerly both of Burlington and Joseph Byerly of Morehead; 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Faye Maria Byerly; parents; sisters and brothers. The funeral service will be held 11:00am Saturday at Ossipee Baptist Church by Rev. Jason Wilkerson and the burial will follow at Magnolia Cemetery in Elon. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence. Mrs. Byerly will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service at the church.
