Edgar Samuel Williamson Dameron, Jr., 89, of 2511 Pineway Dr., died Monday, October 5, 2009 after several months of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of Edgar S.W. Dameron, Sr. and Lola Lasley Dameron, both deceased. Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Margaret Abbott Dameron of the home; a son, Marcus Edgar Dameron and wife, Amy, of Raleigh; a daughter Lori Waller of Burlington; five grandchildren, Marcus Edgar Dameron, Jr., Addison Dameron, Laura Waller, Jennifer Waller and Anna Waller; a brother, Dr. John Lasley Dameron and wife, Elizabeth, of Memphis, TN; and nephews, George Dameron of Hinesburg, VT and John Dameron of Reno, NV. After graduating from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, he served as a combat engineer in Italy, Sicily and Africa for four years during WWII. After his military service he graduated from the UNC School of Law in 1948 and practiced law with his father for several years, served as the District Attorney of Alamance County and also as a sole practitioner until his retirement in 1994. An avid tennis player, Mr. Dameron was a member of the UNC varsity tennis team, played in many tournaments throughout North Carolina, and for many years held the title of men's champion at Alamance Country Club. A dedicated and active member of Front Street United Methodist Church, he taught Sunday School for 63 years, served as a lay speaker, a Stephen Minister and was awarded lifetime membership to the Board of Stewards. Mr. Dameron was involved in several civic organizations which included the Exchange Club and the Burlington Kiwanis Club. He especially enjoyed sharing his life long love of kites by teaching young people how to make and fly their own Barn Door kite during the annual Kite Derby, sponsored by the Burlington Parks and Recreation and the Burlington Kiwanis Club. He was an accomplished wood worker and enjoyed drawing the plans, carving and assembling many beautiful pieces that are cherished by family and friends. Mr. Dameron served on the Burlington City School Board and was appointed chairman in 1968. He was a member of the Alamance County Bar Association and served as director on the boards of several local banks over the years. He was chosen Boss of the Year by the local chapter of the American Business Womens' Association in 1969. In memory of their father, Mr. Dameron and his brother, Lashley, established the E.S.W. Dameron, Sr. Law Scholarship at UNC Chapel Hill. A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thursday, October 8, 2009 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Marshall Old. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Front Street United Methodist Church, 136 S.
