Burlington Dr. Nariman Bomanshaw Mehta, 94, passed away Friday, August 22, 2014 at Peak Resources after a brief illness. He was born in Bombay, India to the late Bomanshaw Mehta and the late Dhunbai Daruwalla Mehta. Dr. Mehta was a loving father, grandfather, brother and friend, he will be missed dearly. Dr. Mehta retired from Burroughs-Wellcome, Inc., now GlaxoSmithKline, as a Principal Scientist and Organic Chemist. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and the Royal Chemical Society in U.K. and was of the Zoroastrian Faith. Nariman was passionate about his field of study; he tutored many students over the years and held over 55 patents worldwide, most notably Wellbutrin, a commonly prescribed antidepressant. He was an avid fan of classical music and above all enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Perrin and Jeff Burton of Raleigh; Anita and Wes Sartin of Burlington; son and daughter-in-law, Norman and Sonia Mehta of Canada; grandchildren, McEwin Wesley Sartin, Charles Nariman Sartin, Yancey Alexander Sartin and Austin Homi Mehta; and several nieces and nephews. Dr. Mehta was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Nadine Nariman Mehta, sisters, Freny Calagopi and Thriti Tarapore, and brother, Burjor Mehta. The graveside service will be held 11:00am Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, New York. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8pm, Sunday evening at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Women's Resource Center of Alamance County, 411 W. Fifth Street, Burlington, NC 27215.
