Dr. Gordon

Dr. Margery Jean Gordon, 87, died peacefully on Friday, December 15, 2017, at Friends Home at Guilford following a brief illness. She was born in State College, Pennsylvania on July 11, 1930 to William Ralph Gordon and Margery Quaw Gordon. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Anndra Gordon Hurley.

Jean Gordon attended high school in State College, PA before earning her Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Penn State. She taught at several private girls schools before entering the University of Wisconsin-Madison to earn her PHD. Jean joined the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in 1964, as an Associate Professor of History and remained there until her retirement in 1994.

Throughout her life, Jean was a talented artist, enthusiastic traveler, and intrepid fighter for social justice.

She is survived by her sister, Martha Leigh Gordon and brother, William Quaw Gordon.
