Dorothy May McDaries, age 98, went home to be with the Lord Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Alamance Health Care. A native of Alamance County, she was born to the late Walter Marion and Minnie Isley May and was the wife of the late Oliver Earl "John" McDaries. She was the oldest member of Bethel Baptist Church and was known for her good cooking. She also operated McDaries Garden Center alongside her husband. Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Janie M. Swinney and husband Raymond of Mebane; son, Walter "Moley" McDaries and wife Dawn of Burlington; grandchildren, Tammy Hughes and husband Ron, Wendy Shoffner and husband Lanny, Angela Lloyd and husband Keith; great grandchildren, Hunter Lloyd, Gracen Shoffner and Ollie Shoffner and a brother, Walter "Pin" May and wife Martha of Burlington. She is preceded in death by her husband, a grandchild, Tim Swinney, her parents, four sisters and four brothers. The funeral service will be held 3:30pm Friday, August 12, 2011 at Bethel Baptist Church by Pastor Rick Chandler and Pastor Scott London with internment to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00pm until 8:00pm Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of the granddaughter, Tammy.
