Dorothy Ann Green Latta, 85, passed away peacefully on Monday August 19, 2019 at home. She was born January 24, 1934 in Forsyth County, Georgia to the late Walter Newport Green and Floy Hill Green, a farmer and a teacher. She was happily married to the late William Caleb Latta, Jr. for almost 35 years. In just three years at the age of 19, Dorothy graduated from Berry College in Rome, GA and followed in her mother’s footsteps as a teacher. An educator and life-long learner who embraced every moment of life ─ she touched the lives of hundreds of children in her classrooms at E.M. Holt Elementary for 37 years. She was a member of Tau and Fidelis Rho Chapters of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Spade and Trowel Garden Club and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels of Alamance County. Blessed with the green thumb of her father, when she wasn’t working or preparing a Sunday school lesson ─ she was happily gardening in her yard. She was a member of First ARP Presbyterian Church and a former member of Northside Presbyterian Church for many years; where combined she taught Sunday school for 50+ years. She left the world she was born into a far better place than she found it and the flame she lived with, now extinguished, will be missed by all those privileged enough to know and love her.
She is survived by her two sons: Jon Kane Latta and William Green Latta and her sister Jessie Green Brown. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters: Lena Green Byington and Laura Green Mease and two brothers: Walter Glendon Green "Bill" and Leon Hill Green.
Visitation will be held at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington NC from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on August 22 followed by the funeral service on August 23 at 2:00 p.m. at First ARP Presbyterian Church in Burlington, NC. Presiding will be current Pastor Bryan Crotts and former Pastor Tim Robinson. Following the burial at Alamance Memorial Park, the family will receive friends back at the church in the fellowship hall.
Memorials may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215 and First ARP Church, 2250 Saddle Club Road, Burlington, NC 27215
