Mrs. Dorothy Murray Howerton, age 78, formerly of Gilliam Church Rd., passed away on Thursday, December 8, 2016 at Alamance Health Care after several weeks of failing health.
Born in Guilford County she was the daughter of the late Walter M. "Doc" Murray and the late Ruby Alcon Murray and was married for over 37 years to Garland Frances "Buster" Howerton, who passed in 2008. She retired from Tower Mills with over 30 years of service and was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother.
Mrs. Howerton is survived by her three children, Debra Troxler and husband, Rick, of Gibsonville, Linda Whitlow and her husband, Cecil, of Burlington and Matthew Howerton and his wife, Wendy, of Gibsonville; three grandchildren, Eddie (Kelly) Thompson, Hope (Robert) Danieley and Michael Howerton; three step grandchildren, Christian Griffin, Jennifer Bowen and Cecile Joplin; two sisters, Louise (Edker) Howerton and Judy (Steve) Wyrick, both of Gibsonville; two brothers, Clyde (Sue) Murray of Brown Summit and Jerry (Judy) Murray of Burlington; and a brother-in-law, Billy Justice. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; a sister, Betty Justice; and a brother, Clay Murray.
A graveside service will be conducted at 12:00 PM Monday, December 12, 2016 at Shiloh United Methodist Church Cemetery by Rev. T. Judson Dunlap. The family will receive friends from 10:00 - 11:30 AM at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the daughter, Debra's home, 502 Gibsonville-Ossipee Rd., Gibsonville.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staffs of Hospice and Alamance Health Care, especially Carol Wood, for the loving and exceptional care given to Mrs. Howerton.
