Burlington, NC Doris Whitfield Coleman, age 90 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Liberty Commons surrounded by her family. She was born in Person County to the late Lester Ezra Whitfield and Maggie Long Whitfield. She was the wife of the late Charles M. Coleman. Doris retired after many years with Kayser Roth Hosiery. She was a member of Union Ridge Church and a former member of the Richard Jackson Circle. She enjoyed baking cakes for the Harvest Festival Auction at her church. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She is survived by her daughter, Annette Harmon and her husband, John of Graham; grandson, Brian Harmon and his wife, Leslie of Burlington; 2 step grandchildren, Kellie and Harley Smith; sisters, Lorraine Matkins and her husband, JC of Elon, Beatrice Jenkins and Katye Newton both of Burlington, Frances Barber and her husband, Bud of Gibsonville, Jean Walker of Roxboro, NC, Linda Faye Allen and her husband, Woody of Elon and Sadie Roach of Gibsonville; brothers, Herbert Whitfield and his wife, Nancy of Burlington and Herman Whitfield and his wife, Carol of Burlington; sister-in-laws, Mary Lou Whitfield and her companion, Larry of Graham and Gloria Whitfield of Haw River. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents; sisters, Ethel Whitfield and Mae Lowe; brothers, Raymond and Melvin Whitfield. Doris' family would like to thank the nurses and staff of Liberty Commons for their kind and compassionate care for her over the past year and also a special thanks to friends and neighbors, Rex and Peggy Kime. A service to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 10:00 am at Union Ridge Church by Rev. Dan Ficklin and Rev. James R. Rosser and the burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Friday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of her daughter.
