Donzaleigh Barbee

Donzaleigh Ophelia Barbee, 49, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 22, 2020. She was born in Alamance County on July 17, 1970 to Ivory and Janice Barbee. Donzaleigh was educated through middle school at Blessed Sacrament before attending and graduating from Hugh Cummings High School. She pursued higher education at Winston Salem State University and in 1994 graduated from Elon University with a B.S. in Business Administration with a minor in Accounting.

Among others, Donzaleigh has held positions as a Document Control Specialist II at BB&T and part-time  substitute teacher in the Alamance County School System.

Donzaleigh became a member of Grace Outreach Ministry in 2018. She was a member of several community organizations such as Delta Sigma Theta Sorority , Inc., Order of the Eastern Star, and was recently affiliated with the NC Central Triad Chapter of Power to Exhale.

Donzaleigh was passionate about working with children and she especially loved spending time with her granddaughter, Kennedy Dawn, who is affectionately named after her grandmother.

Donzaleigh is survived by her devoted parents, Ivory and Janice; her only son, Ignacio Barbee; her granddaughter, Kennedy Dawn Barbee; her brother, Derrick Barbee and his wife, Charlene; two nieces, Derrica Barbee and Carsulan Barbee; one nephew, Derrick Barbee Jr.; two aunts, Enolia Bigelow and Marva Graves;  two uncles, William Barbee and Henry Barbee; a host of cousins, extended family, a close friend, Terry Williams; and many other friends.

She was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Ophelia Baynes; and paternal grandmother, Lucille Barbee.

A service to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Keisha Bluford, scriptures by Sharon Stanfield, and remarks by Cleopatra Wingard.  The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:45 prior to the service at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at her home.
