Donovan "Donnie" Franklin Summers, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was born in Guilford County on July 31, 1933 to the late Robert Luther Summers, Sr. and Alma Kate Apple Summers and was the husband of 68 years to Celia Grey May Summers of the home.
Donnie was a longtime member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church and a US Army Veteran. He was a member of the Lions Club, Gibsonville VFW Post #2972 and the Chief Judge at the Gibsonville Voting Precinct. Donnie also served as a volunteer in the Gibsonville Volunteer Fire Department. Donnie had a life full of working experience, such as Western Electric in Burlington, Gibsonville Police Department, and Guilford County Sheriff’s Department where he retired after 30+ years. He even served as a Guilford County School Bus Driver. His main focus centered on his wife and family with great devotion.
Survivors include his wife; Celia; daughter, Tamera Kae Casey (Tom) of Reston, VA; son, Lynn Donovan Summers of Roswell, GA; and a grandson, Michael Reilly Casey. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by; sisters, Alma Kathleen Summers, and Virginia Ann Summers Payne; brothers, Robert Luther Summers, Jr., Clarence Ervin Summers, Raymond Thomas Summers and William Virgil Summers.
A service to celebrate Donnie’s life will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday, January 21, 2024 at Gibsonville United Methodist Church with the burial to follow at Gibsonville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:30 - 2:45 prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gibsonville United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 82, Gibsonville, NC 27249 and/or AuthoraCare Collective (Hospice) of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Rd., Burlington, NC 27215.
