Donald Horne

Donald Merlin Horne, 79, died Tuesday, August 18, 2015 of his injuries from a car wreck. He was born November 10, 1935 in Durham, NC to the late James Maxwell Horne, Sr. and the late Donie Fisher Horne. He was married to the late Peggy Jean Crowder Horne who died in 2009. Donald retired from the U.S. Navy after 30 years of service and was a member of Beverly Hills U.C.C., V.F.W. Post 10607 where he had served as the Commander. He was also a member of American Legion Post # 63 and past 6th district Commander of the V.F.W. He was also a member of the BULA Masonic Lodge # 409 A.F. & A.M. Survivors include his sons, Kirk SandraHorne of Graham, Keith Shari Horne of Sedley, VA, seven grandchildren, two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, a sister Erma Gallimore Bivins; brothers, James Horne, Jr., Merle Horne, Bernice Horne, Dallas Horne, Floyd "Sam" Horne and Harold Horne. The funeral will be held 3:00 PM Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 7:00 PM Saturday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. Memorials may be made to V.F.W. Post 10607, 634 W. Webb Ave., Burlington, NC 27215. The Marine Corp League will assist in military honors for Mr. Horne.
