Donald Lynn Barker

Donald Lynn Barker, age 67, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, January 16, 2025 after 4 years of declining health and a recent hospitalization. Born June 8, 1957, he was the son of the late Donald Ray Barker and Wanda Sauls Barker, who survives. He was the loved and adored husband of Janet Atkins Barker since their marriage on September 21, 1991. 

Born and raised in the Stony Creek Presbyterian Church community and a lifelong member of the church, he was known for his strong work ethics, having helped on many of the farms in the community and building relationships that he cherished. Attending A-O school and after graduation with the Class of 1975 at Western Alamance High School, he enlisted in the US Air Force. He spent over 40 years in the trucking industry running over the road and then locally with Sonoco - Builders Transport, Nations Way Transport and USF Holland before retiring from ABF Freight in Durham, NC in 2019. Before his declining health issues, he could be found playing his favorite sport on the many golf courses in the area and wherever he traveled with Janet. 

In addition to his wife of the home, he is survived by his son, Adam Lee Barker and wife Tiffany of Seven Lakes, NC and granddaughters, Laney Elise Barker and Tillee Nora Barker; his son, Matthew Lee Barker, US Navy Active Duty stationed in Point Mugu, California; sister Cathy Clemmons and her husband Sam; his grand dog “Apple” whom he was compassionately attached to and a host of extended family members and friends. 

There will be no formal services at this time. A burial at sea will be coordinated in conjunction with the US Navy.
