Dixie Davis Smith Stafford, 88, passed away Saturday, April 3, 2021 at Alamance Regional Medical Center, where she was reunited with her beloved husband, Charles K. Stafford, Jr. of 42 years who died in 1995. Dixie was born on December 28, 1932 in Alamance County to the late William James Smith, Jr. and Mae Davis Smith.
She retired after 32 years from Burlington Urological Associates. Beverly Perdue and was honored by the United Way in 2012 for all of her dedication and volunteering that she did for the community. Dixie was a member of People’s Memorial Christian Church, where she and Charles were very active in various committees.
Dixie was a loving and spiritual lady, who was a caregiver during her career and with her husband and mother until their death. Everyone who knew Dixie, knew she was missing her Charles. Her request was to be buried in her wedding dress that she wore in 1953 when she married the love of her life, Charles.
She is survived by her extended family, Vickie Baynes and Mike and Jane Greene: her church family and friends; and four cousins, Melissa (Randall) Rogan, Charles Pace, Jr., Matthew (Amy) Pace, Stan (Teresa) Pace and James Pace. Dixie was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Grinnell with the burial to follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00pm to 1:45pm Saturday prior to the service and will be available for viewing on Friday from 12pm to 5pm at the funeral home. The service will be live stream.
