Dewey Upshaw

Mr. Dewey Lige Upshaw, age 88, of Burlington, passed away Saturday, April 20, 2013 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Croset, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Garland Upshaw and the late Clara Bryant Upshaw and was married for over 62 years to Mrs. Jerry Andrews Upshaw, who survives. Mr. Upshaw was a retired business manager with the Ironworkers Local Union 84 in Houston, TX., was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church, where he was a member of the Friends Sunday School Class, and served as a greeter. Dewey loved the outdoors and was an avid fisherman. Mr. Upshaw is survived by his wife of the home; a daughter, Debbie Braxton and her husband, Mark, of Burlington; a granddaughter, Jennifer Ray; three great grandchildren, Alli Ray, Cheyenne Ray and Evan Ray; and two sisters, Ruby Speelman and Peggy Blevins, both of Houston, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandsons, Brett Ray and Jeffrey Ray; and four brothers, Charles Upshaw, James Upshaw, Bobby Upshaw and Billy Upshaw. The funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Larry Redding. Interment will follow in Graham Memorial Park.
