Dewey Stewart

Burlington - Dewey Raymond "D.R." Stewart, 89, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 7, 2018 at the Hospice Home surrounded by his family. A native of Montgomery County, he was born on August 4, 1928 to the late James Barney and Annie Lee Gilmore Stewart.

He served in the US Air Force and retired from the NC Highway Patrol after 36 years of service. D.R. was a wonderful dad and loving Paw Paw to his grandchildren. Breakfast was a must every morning at Hardees with his "Breakfast Buddies", always remembering to feed the leftover crumbs to the birds. He enjoyed exercising at the YMCA, was an avid golfer and enjoyed socializing with his friends at the Shrine Club. Every evening he enjoyed feeding wildlife behind his residence at Shamrock.
Survivors include his son, Raymond Bradley Stewart and wife Beth; daughter, Allyson Stewart Rogers and husband Barry; grandchildren, Stewart Rogers, Harrison Rogers and Karson Stewart; ex-wife and friend, Carolyn Stewart; sister, Pat Morgan and husband Robert; sister-in-law, Lois Stewart and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Paul Stewart, James C. Stewart and Arthur Lee Stewart.
A service to celebrate D.R.'s life will be held 1:00pm on Thursday, January 11, 2018 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Gary Williams with the burial to follow at Alamance Memorial Park. North Carolina State Highway Patrol are asked to sit as pallbearers and Masons and Shriners as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday at the funeral home and other times at the son, Raymond's home at 518 Whitt Ave. in Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Attn: Office of Development, 2900 N. Rocky Point Dr., Tampa, FL 33607 or to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 22478, Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
