Dennis Wayne Clayton

Dennis Wayne Clayton, 72, of Burlington North Carolina passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2024. 

Born in Durham County he was the son of the late Duke Clayton and Doris Jordan Porterfield, and stepfather Eugene Porterfield, Jr. In addition to his parents he is preceded in death by his late wife of 54 years, Sharon Denise Clayton and his grandparents, Charlie and Sudie Clayton, of Burlington and James and Mamie Jordan of Hurdle Mills. 

Mr. Clayton loved working on race cars and drag them. He and his son, Donnie Clayton, would work on those and drag them together. He was also very passionate about his children, grandchildren and absolutely adored his great grandchildren. Mr. Clayton also helped anyone in need of support, and was caring and passionate for others, he would give you the shirt off of his back. He worked most of his life in HVAC and retired from UNC Hospitals where he was the Plant Engineer. 

Surviving is his wife, Linda T. Clayton of the home; one son, Donnie Clayton (Sharon) of Roxboro; one daughter, Penny Carter (Daniel) of Burlington; two granddaughters, Brandy Carter Straughan (Gene) of the home and Ashley Carter of Burlington; two great grandchildren, Skylar Straughan and Weston Straughan of the home; two sisters, Janet Clayton Hayes (Neil) of Burlington and Terry Clayton (H.B. Garrett) of Roxboro; one brother, David Porterfield of Myrtle Beach, SC.; one niece, Heather Hayes of Charlotte; and a host of cousins, one of whom he was especially close to, Mickey Clayton of Mebane. 

A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM, Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends from 12:30 PM-1:45 PM before the service.
