Denise Sykes Childress, 59, of 1863 Turner Rd. passed away Thursday, June 23, 2011 at the Hospice Home. Mrs. Childress was born June 17, 1952 in Guilford County to the late Homer Wayne Sykes and Myrtle Newton Sykes who survives. Denise was a 1970 graduate of Southern Alamance High School, was a cheerleader 6 of her 12 years while in school, was employed with 22 years of service with U.N.C. Chapel Hill, and was a member of the 1st Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include her husband, Claude "Jabo" Childress of the home; a daughter, Madison Newton Childress of the home; her mother, Myrtle Newton Sykes of Alamance; several devoted cousins; and a good friend, Share Ferrell. A funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Monday, June 27, 2011 at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Dale Bailey officiating. The burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 4-6 p.m. Sunday at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home of her mother in Alamance. Memorials may be made to the 1st Church of the Nazarene, P.O.
