Debbie passed away on Friday May 25, 2018 after an eight and half month courageous battle with cancer. From the time of the initial symptoms of pain and the discovery of pathological pelvic fracture thru diagnostic procedures, surgeries and various treatments, Debbie handled each with grace and compassion towards those who cared for her. She was blessed with an outpouring of love and support from family, friends and our church.
Debbie loved and served our Lord and Savior with all her heart. She was a kind, gentle soul and a provided a sweet and encouraging word for all. She did that with a smile that was warm and endearing, even while suffering pain and discomfort in the months of her illness.
Debbie worked for E.F. Hutton in Norfolk, VA for 10 years. She "retired" from this career when Dan accepted a job in Durham, NC, at which time she became a full time homemaker. After many years of infertility, Debbie was blessed with the dream of her life, to be a full time mother. She literally poured her life and love in to being the best mother that she could be including being a home-school teacher for twelve years. Every day of her life as a wife and mother, she supported Dan in his career and Jonathan in his formative years, education, extracurricular activities and in most recent years, his career. She did this with love, pride and joy.
Debbie had a passion for studying God's word and for taking care of her family. She often said she wished she had gone to college so that she would have achieved her potential. We believe, she did not need a degree to do this. She achieved more than most with the testimony of her life and her commitment to excel in everything that she did.
Throughout her life including the last day of her life, Debbie had a warm smile for all. The majority of the last month of her life was spent in the hospital, but the providers of care, the friends and family that visited and all that came into contact with her received a smile and a word of encouragement. We heard many times from a number of people, that they had never encountered someone that was experiencing the pain and difficulties that she was battling, to be as pleasant and kind. She gave credit to God for being with her and carrying her through each day.
Debbie will be missed greatly by many and remembered by all that she blessed. When Debbie was absent from the body and present with the Lord, she heard the words of Matthew 25:23, "…well done, good and faithful servant; …enter thou into the joy of thy Lord."
Debbie is survived by her husband Dan, son Jonathan, mother Shirley Baucom and brother Alan Adcock. Also, her mother in law Patricia Cuthriell, sister in law Cyndee Schippell and husband Karl, uncles and aunts, cousins, nephews and nieces and many people that adopted her as a "sister" in her Christian faith.
The family sincerely appreciates the care the was provided by Dr. Mark Miller, Dr. Govinda Brahmanday, the nurses and technicians of Alamance Regional Medical Center, the doctors and nurses of Duke University Medical Center, especially unit 2300. Also, we want to thank our family friends and pastoral staff of our church that reached out through prayers, cards, telephone calls, emails, messages and food. We could not have endured this journey without the support.
The family will be at Lowe Funeral Home on South Church Street in Burlington on Friday June 1st from 5-8pm for visitation. A service of celebration will be Saturday June 2nd, Debbie and Dan's 39th wedding anniversary at Grove Park Baptist Church at 108 Trail One, Burlington at 11am.
