David Turner

David Lee Turner, 70, of 1214 Dogwood St., died Friday, December 7, 2007 at Alamance Regional Medical Center after a brief illness. A native of Alamance County he was the son of the late Howard Lee Turner and Mrs. Louise Southard Turner Blackmon, who survives. He was lovingly married for over 50 years to Glenda Jones Turner, who survives. David was retired from Glen Raven Mills with over 38 years service and was an U.S. Army Veteran where he served as a tank commander. He was a member of the Church at Burlington. He was a member of the Glen Raven Baseball Team, Alamance County Personnel Association, Altamahaw Civitan Club, the Wednesday Senior Golf Association and the Alamance Senior Golf Association. David played Santa Clause for many churches, schools, friends and families and was the first Santa for the enjoyment of children in Holly Hill Mall. Mr. Turner is survived by his wife of the home; mother of Burlington; two daughters, Dawn Turner Vargas and her husband, Mike, of Wake Forest and Rene Turner Cranfill and her husband, Shorty, of Burlington; a son, Jeffery Lynn Turner, of Burlington; three grandchildren, Jason Vargas, Ben Vargas and Josh Cranfill; a sister, Patricia Davis of Madison, MO; step mother, Margaret Lee Turner of Burlington; a half sister; and three half brothers. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Monday, December 10, 2007 at the Church at Burlington by the Rev. Chris Allman and Mr. Mack Ray. Interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Sunday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the home. Memorials may be made to the Church at Burlington c/o the building fund, P.O. Box 2684, Burlington, NC 27216 or to Edgewood Place, 1820 Brookwood Ave., Burlington, NC 27215.
