David Spriestersbach

David Richard Spriestersbach died Tuesday, May 29, 2008 at The Village at Brookwood in Burlington, North Carolina. Mr. Spriestersbach was born January 24, 1921 in St. Paul, Minnesota. After serving in the Air Force during World War II, he earned his PhD in biochemistry from the University of Minnesota. He worked for the DuPont Company as a senior research chemist for 30 years, first in Waynesboro, VA and then in Wilmington, Delaware, where he and his wife Barbara lived for 45 years before moving to Burlington, NC in 2006. After retirement, David and Barbara enjoyed travel to Europe for music and art programs. He had a variety of special interests, including opera, restoring vintage MG's, building computers, reading, and time spent with his family during vacations in Nags Head, NC. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Barbara Reis Spriestersbach; one son, Alan Spriestersbach and wife Kathy, of Windsor, CT; four daughters, Susan Lapidus of Conifer, CO; Sara Haigh and husband John of Elon, NC; Lisa Harris and husband Tom of Stoneville, NC; and Martha Kuon and husband James of Capon Bridge, WV. Also surviving are 5 grandsons, Peter Lapidus, Nicholas Kuon, Michael Haigh, Richard Haigh, and Daniel Harris; 4 granddaughters, Sarah Ellsworth, Emily Vincent, Kirsten Londono, and Erin Reid-Eriksen, and 4 great-grandchildren, Caileigh Ellsworth, Lily Vincent, Annie Vincent, and Benjamin Londono. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington, NC 27215. A private family memorial service is planned.
