Elon
David Wayne Simmons, 45 of 3825 Stoney Creek Church Rd. went to be with his Lord and Savior on April 24, 2016 at his home.
David was born on August 11, 1970. He was married to his loving wife Lisa for 21 years.
He joined Bethlehem Christian Church at an early age, attending all youth activities and church services.
After his marriage to Lisa, he became a member of Long's Chapel Christian Church where he served many positions. David was ordained a Deacon and served on the Deacon Board as Chairman and Assistant Chairman for several years.
David graduated from Western Alamance High School in 1988 and attended Alamance Community College, graduating in 1990 with a Degree in Electronics. He worked part time at Piedmont Paint while attending college. He was later employed at A-O Smith for 3 years, 15 years at J.A. King Scales Company, 5 years at Atlas Lighting and was presently employed with Camcor, Inc.
David loved his friends, family and community and demonstrated this in his involvement with several organizations. He served as a member of the training staff with Western Alamance football team for 6 years, was Assistant Scout Master with Troop 142 of the Boy Scouts of America for 12 years.
Survivors include his wife, Lisa Lewis Simmons of the home; son, Kendall Janssen Simmons of the home; daughter, Griffin Taylor Simmons of the home; mother, Joyce Whitesell Simmons of Elon; brother, Danny Ray Simmons and wife Michele of Graham; mother in law, Kay S. Lewis; sister in law Rita Hopkins (Bobby); nephews, Jared Hopkins (Erika), Hunter Simmons, Nolan Simmons and Landon Simmons; great nephews, Beckett Simmons and Jackson Hopkins; nieces, Kaylan Hopkins and Meredith Simmons and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, James Doake Simmons and father in law Ray Lewis.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00pm Friday, April 29, 2016 at Bethlehem Christian Church by Rev. Todd Felkel and Rev. Bud Wrenn. The family will receive friends from 5-8pm Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home and other times at the home. Following the committal service, the family will receive friends in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
