David Reed

Burlington, NC David Shawn Reed, age 35, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, February 13, 2012 at UNC Hospital surrounded by his family. He was a native of Alamance County and the son of Tracy Gerald Reed and Janet Marie Woodard Reed. Shawn attended Grace Memorial Baptist Church and was a member of the Cummings High School class of '96. He played football throughout middle school and his four years at Cummings. Shawn coached the Air Cavs football teams for many years through the Recreation Department. He was an avid Greenbay Packer Fan. Due to injuries received in a auto accident he was the first recipient of a "freehand system". Shawn was a mentor at Moses Cone Hospital for patients with spinal cord injuries. He rang the bell for the Salvation Army at Christmas time and he never met a stranger. Survivors include his parents, Tracy and Janet Reed of Burlington; sister, Catlin Rose Crenshaw and a brother, Caleb Franklin Crenshaw both of the home; fiance, Kimberly Foust of Burlington; numerous cousins and extended family; special caregiver, Pam Enoch and his best friend, Shannon Massey; beloved friend, "Snuggles" his dog. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Russell Franklin Woodard and Lillie Rose Woodard and paternal grandparents, Arthur and Beatrice Reed. A service to celebrate his life will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 am at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Pastor Ryan Brigman and the burial will follow at McCray Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 pm on Friday at the funeral home and other times at his parents home. Memorials may be made to Grace Memorial Baptist Church, 2307 Carolina Road, Burlington, NC 27217.
