David Norman Kylander, age 60, of Elon, passed away Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Wesley Long Hospital after several weeks of failing health. Born in Terre Haute, IN, he was the son of the late Herman Fredrick Kylander and the late Margaret Wyrick Kylander Hughes and was married for 39 years to the love of his life Sherry Somers Kylander, who survives. David was a U.S. Marine Corp veteran and served during the Vietnam War. He was employed with Elon University. David was a member of the Gibsonville Masonic Tabasco Lodge 271 and also a member and treasurer of the Iron Order Motorcycle Club. He was a former member of the Cherry Grove Volunteer Fire Department and was a past President of the Burlington Police Club. He was of the Baptist faith. Mr. Kylander is survived by his wife of the home; his son, Joshua David Kylander and his wife, Sarah, of Yanceyville; two grandsons, William Douglas Hall and David Reid Kylander; three sisters, Judith Dunkley of West Terre Haute, IN, Sandra Wooten of Walterboro, SC and Debbie Kylander of Gibsonville; and four brothers, Jerry Patsy Kylander of Gibsonville, Lonny Jackie Kylander of Chapel Hill, Rodger Kylander and Mark Mary Kylander, both of Goose Creek, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Johnny Kylander; brothers-in-law, Clarence Dunkley and Jerry Wooten; and a sister-in-law, Angie Kylander. The funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 PM Saturday, November 15, 2014 at Altamahaw Baptist Church by Dr. Steve Tucker and Rev. Brian Hurdle. Interment will follow in Gilliam's Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
