David Thomas Hix, Sr., age 85, formerly of Gibsonville passed away on August 15, 2016 at Grand Strand Medical Center, Myrtle Beach, SC
A native of Iredell County, he was the husband of the late Susanne Jadlock Hix and son of the late Richard Minor and Willie Mae Thomas Hix.
David was the owner of Gibsonville Drug and operated it from 1961 until his retirement in 2000. He was a member of Gibsonville United Methodist Church and was on the Finance Committee for 26 years. He was a founding member of the Gibsonville Jaycees, Secretary of the Gibsonville Fire Dept. Relief Fund, Board of Directors of the Gibsonville Bank, member of the Gibsonville Merchants Assoc. and Alamance County Pharmaceutical Assoc.
Survivors include his daughters, Edith H. Apple and husband Randy of Gibsonville and Dr. Julia H. Dean and husband Dr. Kent Dean of Hope Mills; son David T. ''Tommy'' Hix, Jr. and wife Dixie of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; grandchildren, Zac Apple and wife Brittany, Nick Dean, Kentley Dean, Taylor Zuercher and husband Alex, Tara Hix, Danni Hix and David T. Hix, III; 1 great grandchild, Skylar Apple; He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and 8 siblings, Thelma H. Daniels, Era Speaks, Edna Jean Sample, Virginia Hehemann, Mildred Hix, James Hix, Minor Hix and Harry Hix.
David was a loving and caring husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. Family was one of the most important things in his life. Most of his time was spent caring and serving others. He loved his church and the town of Gibsonville and its people. He was a very charitable man who never sought recognition. For all those who knew David, know he was a very avid UNC fan and supporter. You will most likely continue to hear him saying "Go Heels!".
Funeral services will be held 4:00 PM Sunday, August 21, 2016 at Gibsonville United Methodist Church by Rev. Sybil Parks and Dr. Robert Dodd. Interment will follow in Gibsonville City Cemetery. Mr. Hix will be taken to the church where the family will receive friends from 3:00 to 3:45 prior to the funeral service.
Following the graveside service, the family will return to the Fellowship Hall of the Gibsonville United Methodist Church where the family will again receive friends.
