ELON- Mr. David Pierce Clegg, age 75, of Elon, passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at Alamance Regional Medical Center following a lengthy illness with Lymphoma-Leukemia and an eleven day critical illness due to complications.
He was the son of the Rev. W.L. and Dorothy Clegg, both deceased, and was married for over 52 years to Mrs. Judy Walker Clegg, who survives. David is also survived by his daughter, Suzanne Clegg Eller and husband, Brian; two grandchildren, Brianne and Slone Eller; a sister, Dorothy Harper and husband, Lyle; sister-in-law, Merle Huffman; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, William "Billy" Clegg, Jr.; and a brother-in-law, Don Huffman.
A longtime member of St. Marks Church in Burlington, David retired from Stearns Chrysler-Jeep as the Parts Manager. For the last nine years he served as a courier for Nichols Dodge-Chrysler-Jeep dealership and in his words was "The best job I ever had!" He was a member of Tabasco Lodge #0271 in Gibsonville along with the Col. Charles Fisher Camp #813 Sons of Confederate Veterans. David loved his Duke Blue Devils, NASCAR, Classic Cars, Civil War history, reading and spending time at their home at Ocean Isle Beach, and occasionally on a boat, with his family and friends.
David's family would like to extend their gratefulness and thanks to Dr. Pandit, our new Dr "B", Sherry and Josh, and the entire team at the Cancer Center. A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses, aids and respitory therapists for their kind and diligent care while David was in the Critical Care Unit.

A celebration of life will be held at 3:30 PM Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at St. Mark's Church, in the original sanctuary, by Rev. Bob Disher and Rev. David Huffman. A private entombment with Masonic rites will be held at an earlier time. The family will receive friends from 5 - 7 PM Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory and other times at the residence.
