Cynthia Mikell Getford, 89, went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ on April 25, 2024 at her home.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, May 5th at 4PM at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers, please donate to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.
Originally from Jacksonville, Florida, she lived in Burlington for over 13 years. Previously, she worked for Leon County, Florida's County Government in various administrative positions before retiring. Cynthia was a devout follower of Jesus Christ, actively participating in church music ministries. She took great pride in her religious family background, often speaking about her relatives who served as pastors, deacons, musicians, and choir leaders. Like her father, Cynthia enjoyed reading a wide range of literature and cherished the time spent listening to and singing old gospel hymns. An exceptionally skilled seamstress, she continued to cut patterns and sew well into her 70s. Cynthia was fond of wildflowers, frequently stopping to admire their colors roadside and taking some home to identify their names. Her greatest joy was her family, particularly her four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. The night before she passed, she prayed for their protection and salvation, hoping to reunite with them in heaven.
Cynthia leaves behind her daughter, Cynthia Anne Fuqua of Burlington, NC; granddaughter Morgan Byrd (Wesley) of Altoona, FL, and their children, Blythe and Brynn; grandson Dustin Miller (Katie) of Chapel Hill, NC, and their children, Anna, Nathan, and Juliet; granddaughter Dawn Taylor (James) of Burlington, NC, and their children, Hunter and Adalyn; and grandson Clayton Fuqua (Travis) of Carlsbad, CA; daughter-in-law Belinda Fuqua of Altoona, FL; sister-in-law June Mikell of Sebring, FL and her two sons Lee and Stephen; sister-in-law Jenny Lou Webster of Canton, GA and her children Tori, Wendy, and Shawn.
She was predeceased by her husband Roger A. Getford, Jr; parents, William Edward Mikell and Balsy Thomas Mikell; brother, William Wayne Mikell; and son, Thomas Franklin Fuqua, Jr.
