Haw River Cpl. Pruitt Allen Rainey, 22, of Haw River passed away on Sunday, July 13, 2008 while faithfully serving his country in Afghanistan. Pruitt was a member of Glen Hope Baptist Church where he was very active with the youth after getting saved under the ministry of Rev. David Faile, his youth pastor. He was a Graham High School graduate and a member of the wrestling team where he competed in two state tournaments. After graduation, he attended Campbell University and was also on the wrestling team. Pruitt later joined the military to help further his education. He was a Corporal with the 173rd Airborne Brigade Combat Team, 2nd Battalion, 503rd Infantry. Pruitt, better known as "Our Buddy" to his family, will truly be missed but also remembered by all who knew him for his crooked smile and his big heart. He is survived by his Nana, Linda Kearney of Haw River; half-sister, Jenna Riggins and half-brother, Jacob Turner Riggins, both of Haw River; aunt, Tina Gordon her husband David and their children Eli and Mary Graceyn of Burlington; uncle, Mitchell Rainey of SC; mother, Rinda Riggins of Greensboro; father, Frankie Gay of GA; aunt, Traci Gay Taylor of GA; grandparents, Frank and Libby Gay of GA; grandfather, James A. Rainey of SC; great grandmother, Iva Rainey of Mebane; special family, Pam and Ronnie Moody and their daughter Addie of Burlington, Scarlet and Ron Wood and their children Gage and Chase of Matthews and numerous great aunts and uncles and cousins. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at Glen Hope Baptist Church by David Gordon, Jeff "J.T." Terrell, Rev. David Faile and Rev. Larry Redding. Interment will follow at Bethlehem Christian Church Cemetery with full military honors by the 82nd Airborne Division. The family will receive friends from 6-9 Tuesday evening at the church and other times at his aunt's home, Tina Gordon, 119 Boone Rd., Burlington. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Graham High School Athletic Boosters c/o The Wrestling Team, 903 Trollinger Rd., Graham, NC 27253 in memory of Pruitt Rainey.
