Burlington CAPT. COY JUSTICE Capt. Coy Lee Justice, Sr. Retired, age 80, passed away Saturday, June 2, 2012 at his home. A native of Stokes County, he was the son of the late Robert Lee and Mary Virginia Moss Justice. Coy went to school in the Elon and Gibsonville area before joining the National Guard, then the US Navy. On April 17, 1955 Coy married Mary Jane Waddell, the same year he went to work with the Burlington Fire Dept. He joined the American Legion Post 63 and served many positions including Post Commander for 15 years, District Commander and Divisional Vice Commander on the state level. Coy served as Colon Furr's Commanders Aid and helped form the Colon Furr Nurses Scholarships. He served on the American Legion Baseball Committee and the National Americanism Committee and was a member of the VFW Post 10607. Coy and his fellow firemen played in golf tournaments all over the country with the U.S. and Canadian golf teams. Coy was instrumental in having them held in Burlington for two years. He ran for City Council and volunteered for the V.A. Hospital in Durham. Survivors include his wife, Mary Jane Waddell Justice of the home, sons, Coy Lee Justice, Jr. and wife Dana, Rodney Justice and wife Paula; grandchildren, Tiffany Justice, Stephanie Justice, Carol Straughan and husband Bryan, Dawn Marin, Roger and Sue Boothe; great grandchildren, Destany, Danny and Cricket, Milissa, Kristy, Voight, Andrew, Jessica, Robbie, Lacy, and Jennifer; great great grandchildren; Damion, Noah and Maria; sister, Diana Watkins and husband Aldie; brothers, Calvin C. "Red" Justice, Bobby Edward Justice, Jessie Justice and wife Linda, Jack Dempsey "Shot" Justice and wife Cathy, R.L. Justice and wife Libby; Winfred "Duke" Justice and wife Sharron; half brothers and sisters, Marie Thomas and husband Paul, Dot McKenny and husband Westly, Ed Hill, and wife Tonya, Ethel Wicker and husband Ronald, Louise Jefferson and husband Edward, Jeannetta Apple, Catherine Dearmont and Roy Hill. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Moyer Lee Justice; step father, Martin Hill; step brothers Hurbert Hill and James "Sonny" Hill. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am Tuesday, June 5 in the Mt Zion Christian Church by Rev. Rick Webster, American Legion Chaplin George Phillips and Rev. Jimmy Burke. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Justice will remain at Lowe Funeral Home and Crematory until being taken to the church to lie in state 1 hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends at Lowe Funeral Home from 5-8pm Monday and at the residence at other times. During his final months, Coy was able to stay in his home surrounded by his loving family with the assistance of Hospice. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Alamance County; 914 Chapel Hill Rd.
