Cornelia Barnwell

Cornelia "Connie" Ditto Barnwell, 84, passed away Tuesday February 1, 2011 at The Village of Brookwood following several months of failing health. She was the wife of the late Richard "Dick" Brantley Barnwell, Sr. and was born November 20, 1926 in Huntington, WV to the late Holton Young and Mae Murchison Ditto. Connie was a graduate of Queens College with a degree in Psychology, and worked for Burlington Industries for many years. She was a former member of the Burlington Service League. Connie was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Adult Sunday School Class along with the Ladies Circle # 4. She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. Survivors include her daughter Beverly Todd Smith of Elon, sons; Richard "Brant" Joyce Barnwell, Jr. of Carolina Beach, Holton Teresa Barnwell of Houston, TX, Kenneth Barnwell of Greensboro, grandchildren; Tina Marsh, Matt Johnson, Grayson Barnwell and Alexis Smith. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a brother Dr. William Ditto. The funeral service will be held 11:00 AM Friday at the First Presbyterian Church by Dr. Ron Shive. Interment will follow in Pine Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Thursday at Lowe Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. and at other times at the home of Beverly Smith, 206 Courtland Dr., Elon.
