Cora Ackerman

Burlington, NC Cora Imogene "Jean" Cornett Ackerman, age 87, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 24, 2012 at Edgewood Place at the Village at Brookwood. She was a native of Tioga County, New York and the wife of 65 years to the late Joseph Eugene Ackerman. Cora was a homemaker and member of Owego United Methodist Church in Owego, New York. She served in many areas of the church and was a member of the choir. Cora volunteered for over 35 years with Meals on Wheels and was a longtime member of the Garden Club in Owego. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her sons, Richard Ackerman and his wife, Dale of Bahama, NC and William Ackerman and his wife, Michele of Badin Lake, NC; grandchildren, Chris Ackerman, Beth Childs, Brice Ackerman, Julie Hiatt, Thomas and James Ackerman; 7 great grandchildren; sister, Lois Beavan and her husband, Harold of Johnson City, NY; brothers, Leo Cornett and his wife, Jean of Union Center, NY, Charles Cornett and his wife, Bonnie of Delray Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Jane Cornett of Owego, NY; several nieces and nephews.. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, Onell Lee and Anna Mae Byers Cornett; sister, Margaret Kishpaugh and a brother, Lloyd "Jack" Cornett. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Mt. Bethel United Methodist Church in Bahama by Rev. Grace G. Hackney. The congregation is invited to greet the family and join in fellowship together in the fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be made to Mt.
