Clyde Alvin Billings, Sr. A resident of Whitestone: A Masonic and Eastern Star Community, Greensboro, NC passed away on January 29, 2018. Clyde was born on November 18, 1935 in Rockwood, TN. He was a graduate of Rockwood High School, Class of 1953, attended Carson Newman University, and The University of Tennessee. Clyde lived in the Burlington and Mebane areas for the past 47 years. He was the former owner of Mebane Hosiery, Inc. in Mebane, NC. and retired from Graham Dyeing and Finishing. He was owner of Volunteer Stables, which trained and brokered Tennessee Walking Horses. Clyde won many blue ribbons astride Streakin' Deacon and was the Tennessee Walking Horse Association's Reserve World Grand Champion with Copy's Rippling Rhythm. He enjoyed trail riding on his beloved horse Prince and participating in dog trials. Clyde was a 51 year member of Rockwood Masonic Lodge #403 F. &A.M., Rockwood Tn., Honorary member of Bula Lodge #409 A.F. &A.M, Burlington, NC, Scottish Rite: Valley of Knoxville, and a charter member of Amran Shiners, Raleigh, NC. He was also a member of the Burlington Shrine Club, serving as President in 1983, Burlington Lions Club, Burlington Luncheon Club, and the Rockwood Jaycees. Clyde was of the Baptist faith. The Man loved his family, his friends, his animals, a good joke, a clean car, and a drink or two. Clyde shared with us a lot of great stories and he knew when he first tried it that he would like it.
He was the son of the late William Clyde Billings and Jewey Newman Billings. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren Clyde Alvin Billings, III and Sarah Elizabeth Billings.
He is survived by sons, Clyde Alvin Billings, Jr. and wife Fran, William Michael Billings, Sr. and wife Jolie and Former Wife Jean Gilmer Billings, Grandchildren Christine Billings and Lindsay Billings, William Michael Billings, Jr. and wife April, Taylor B. Vanlandingham and husband Juston. Great-grandchildren, Hayden Kivett, Audrey & Lucy Billings Harley Michael & Jasper Lee Vanlandingham , and on the way Lillian Karilee Vandlandingham.
The family would like to thank Twilla Bullard and Crystal Bell for their loving care while Clyde was being cared for at home. A very special thank you to Brother Mark Kolada, Executive Director of WhiteStone: A Masonic and Eastern Star Community and his staff for their extraordinary care of Clyde during his final ride. To all the friends and family who shared their love and support during these years, we can never thank you or love you enough.
A visitation will be from 2:00 - 3:45 PM Friday, February 2, 2018 followed by a funeral service at 4:00 PM in the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Clyde Alvin (as he was known in Rockwood) will be taken home for burial at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rockwood, TN with Masonic Rites, 2:00 PM Saturday, February 3, 2018. Friends and family are invited to attend.
