Clifton Whitley, Jr.

Clifton Ernest Whitley, Jr., age 88, died Thursday, October 4, 2012 at the Hospice Home after a month of failing health. A native of Alamance County, he was the son of the late Clifton Ernest Whitley, Sr. and the late Annie Belle Braxton Whitley and was married for over 65 years to Mrs. Tulip Carden Whitley, who survives. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran and served during WWII. Ernest was plant manager at Mebane Hosiery for over 40 years and was a member of Kinnett Memorial Baptist Church. Ernest's proudest personal accomplishments were earning his GED at age 72 from Alamance Community College and participating in the Triad Flight of Honor in October, 2011. Mr. Whitley is survived by his wife of the home; two daughters, Denise W. King and her husband, Larry, of Burlington and Sherry W. Hodge and her husband, Danny, of Harrisburg, NC; three grandchildren, Brian King and his fiance, Christine Allen, Kristen Bogunia and her husband, Thomas, and Kory Hodge; four great grandchildren, Charlie Bogunia, Banks Bogunia, Annie B. Bogunia and Tony Allen; and a sister, Hazel Self of Graham. He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Jeremy King; and two brothers, Troy Whitley and Bobby Whitley. A graveside service will be conducted at 3:00 PM Sunday, October 7, 2012 at Pine Hill Cemetery by Rev. Don Pegg. The family will receive friends at the home.
