Burlington-Cleo Rudd Johnson Thompson, 97 went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, May 18, 2016. She was a native of Alamance County and the wife of the late Robert Curtis Johnson, Sr. and the late Grover Thompson.
Cleo was the oldest living member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. She was also a member of the Guiding Light Quartet sharing her faith in song throughout the community. Cleo was a loving and devoted Christian wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and great great grandmother.
She is survived by her daughters, Jo Ann Rich of Burlington and Janice Johnson and husband, David of Burlington; son, Robert "Robbie" Curtis Johnson, Jr. and wife, Carolyn Marie Evans Johnson of Burlington; 11 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 6 great great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, parents, John Thomas Rudd and Eudora Frances Minor Rudd; great grandson, Presley Allen Small; son-in-law, Rev. Max W. Rich; daughters, Judy Mae Oakley and husband, Ray and Cynthia Dawn Shields and 11 siblings.
A service to celebrate her life will be held on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at 2:00 pm at Tabernacle Baptist Church by Pastor Norman Fargis and the burial will follow at Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 12 noon until 1:45 pm prior to the service at the church and other times at the home.
