Clarence Sykes, Sr.

Clarence Ralph Sykes, Sr. 94, formerly of Quintas Ave. passed away at Alamance Regional Medical Center. He was the husband of the late Easter Phillips Sykes, Beulah Farmer Sykes and Ruth King Sykes. He was born December 1, 1913 in Dickenson County, VA to the late Brice and Cora Wright Sykes. Clarence served in the US Army during WW II in the European Theatre with the 283rd Combat Engineers. He retired from Western Electric and was a member of The Jehovah's Witnesses West Congregation Burlington. Survivors include his daughter Loretta S. Thomas and her husband Bill of Burlington, sons; Eddie Sykes and his wife Joyce of Woodbridge, VA, Clarence R. "Ralph" Sykes, Jr. and his wife Jennie of Burlington, a daughter-in-law Louisa Sykes of Crooked River Ranch, OR, step daughters; Wilma Jean Schmidt of Sandy, OR, Bonnie Nimz of Portland, OR, Jane Morris and her husband Ronnie of Durham, Marie Adkins and her husband Ricky of Winston Salem, step sons; Jerry Cochran and his wife Natasha of Sandy, OR, David Womble and his wife Sylvia of Burlington, twelve grandchildren, seventeen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his wives, parents, a son James Sykes, a grandson Jamie Sykes and thirteen siblings. The funeral will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday March 26 th at Lowe Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends 6-8 PM Tuesday at Lowe Funeral Home and at other times at the home of his daughter Loretta Thomas 4074 Williams Mill Rd., Burlington Memorials may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607-1460.
