Christopher Duffy Collins, 28, of 125 Orange Drive died at his home on Friday, September 16, 2005 after a courageous battle with renal failure and dialysis for two and a half years. He was a native of New Hanover County and the son of Bruce Eugene Collins and Mary Jo Ashby Collins. Duffy was a student at UNC-Greensboro where he had completed his Anthropology Degree and minor in Religion. He had enrolled and started classes for Nursing School. Duffy was of the Lutheran faith. He was a 1995 graduate of Walter Williams High School where he was student body vice president and he served as a student council representative. He also was a member of the Latin Club and was chosen to be on the Homecoming Court. Duffy enjoyed sports playing on the Golf and Tennis teams while in High School and participated in sports during his lifetime. In 1989 he was awarded the Sugar Babies Bambino Sportsman Award for the City of Burlington and also in that same year he pitched striking out eleven players as a lefty receiving the game ball becoming the first player to receive such an honor in the City of Burlington. In 1999 he was the Alamance County PRO-AM Cross State 2nd Place Amateur Men in Disc Golf and taking first place Amateur Division Cross State Double for NC versus TN in Disc Golf. Survivors include his parents, Bruce Eugene and Mary Jo Ashby Collins of the home; his PaPa, James T. "Buddy" Robinson of Rocky Mount; step grandmother, Geneva Ashby of Nashville, NC and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends that loved him dearly. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Frank T. Ashby; maternal grandmothers, Josephine Long Ashby and Margaret Parrott Wellons; paternal grandfathers, Jack Hill Collins, Sr. and Johnie O. Odom; paternal grandmother, Frances "Sweetie" Odom; uncle, Mitchell L. Collins and aunt, Barbara Ashby Buckner. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 20, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. at the Lowe Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Bob Stephenson and the burial will follow a Alamance Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. on Monday evening at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
